Since the statement below was formulated, our lives have changed...divorce, illness, remarriage, and just plain growth (and not just the babies) have altered our approach. But in general, our ideals remain the same.
The purpose of our farm: To explore a more sustainable lifestyle, live well on less, localize our economy (produce 50% of our food, 100% of our electricity), provide organically grown foods & other goods to local markets, and inspire others toward sustainability.
The purpose of our homestead: We wish to revitalize the practice of extended family living and provide land based security for future generations. In one house (and a barn studio) we’ll have residing Nonnie (grandma), Deedee (grandpa), mommy, daddy, aunties (maybe uncles), assorted babies & children, 4 dogs, 3 cats, chickens imminent, & maybe some goldfish. We hope to demonstrate & benefit from the sharing of knowledge, wisdom, economic, spatial, & labor related resources as well as the nurturing environment of many adult care-givers for our children. Our family supports the folllowing child-rearing practices: attachment parenting, extended breastfeeding, baby wearing, co-sleeping, positive discipline, unschooling/homeschooling, elimination communication.
