Starting Over

The blog has experienced a hiatus of sorts for a variety of reasons, and due to bad scripts (?) I haven't been able to work on the original blog, soooo...I'm picking up in the middle; as I get time I'll try to pop in older posts so folks can see what we started from--bare dirt.

Early projects included putting in a half mile of road, often through near solid rock ridges, fording the Arroyo de Escabosa, logging a cut in the national forest and milling the wood in our sawmill, putting in a windmill, irrigation, a solar array, water catchment cisterns, and a metal barn with a 15x40 lean-to greenhouse--and most of the time it was two guys, two gals and one baby, with occasional help from family and friends. Though the tractor has done the work of ten men.

We planted fruit trees, berry bushes, and grape vines, a very few of which survived some challenging conditions and are being replaced this year. We are members of the New Mexico Fruit Explorers, and have been grafting some of our own trees. We cultivate a fair sized vegetable garden. We keep bees, and are delving into herbology. We have a beautiful flower garden, and a new 12' diameter fish pond

Since those early projects we bought and closed a plant nursery (responsible for most of the unfinished projects), and are picking up where we left off. As we blog along, we hope you learn from our mistakes, and profit from our successes.
